*repost from 10/17/15* Heard this crazy thing on the internet the other day about a watch embedded into your skin that literally shows you the amount of time you have until you eventually meet your soulmate. The obvious question now is who would want to have something like that. If I'm truly honest, I guess I could use something like that. You know, when the timer hits zero I would stay locked up in a bunker to see who the hell would crack the walls down to get to me. Hell of a story would that be eh? "How you met her?" "She tore down a bunker I was hiding in." Anyway, I got this short story around this concept that I thought I might share today in this, the day of our blog's revival. So it starts with this guy, he signs up for the watch and he's standing in this well lit room, waiting for his turn to receive the "meet-your-soulmate clock". Heart was pounding, sweat on hands, nervously counting silent ticks of the clock on the wall. It is time, his time to know. Fat lady in white shirt calls him into the room, he walks in politely, sits on the chair. In front of him is a desk, with her phone laying on, few files and a pen, around him there are many shelves with same files. She asks for his id, he nervously pulls out his wallet and proceeds to show her plastic card with his name on it, numbers that look random and a photo on which he looks like he did drugs. Brief look is enough, she confirms his indentity, asks for his signature and gives him an envelope. It is done, hope is filling him to the brim, at last he will know when he'll meet the person he's destined to. Shaking hands are tearing the paper so he can pull out the clock and reveal the great unknown. The clock is a plain and thin white stripe, he pushes the button to turn it up, after a short delay there are some symbols, matrix style. As it settles he can see "-002d 15h 12m 49s". Standing as struck by a thunder he is dissappointed. Unable to move nor speak he stands there while the clock keeps ticking. Sadness is tearing up his heart, he missed that one chance. Despair is turning into anger and he slams the clock into the wall. Tiny parts fell on the floor. Calming down he tries to relieve the past 3 days so he may at least know where, and who it might have been. Then it comes to him, he's been on the bus, there was this lovely girl with red hair, who he was affraid to speak to, it must have been her. His eyes begin to fill with tears. Anyway no point standing there, time to head back home, keep on living the life. As he exits the builiding that exact same girl is walking slowly towards the door, he wants to tell her that they are supposed to be together and say that she is the most beatiful girl that he's ever seen. He wants to promise her everything, but again he cannot say the word. She enters with a grace of an angel. That's it, he thinks, I will not waste another chance. I'll wait here and confront her. About half an hour passes, he plans many situations, options of that conversation they're going to have and finally she's coming out of white door. While approaching her he forgets all the things he's decided, he is not sure what to say to her anymore but it's his only shot. -E-excuse me. -Yes? Her voice is the most wonderfull he's ever heard, he could swear that he would listen to it till the day he dies and he would never grow tired of it. -I was wondering, umm, if I could see your clock. She looks at him confused, as if he spoke some different language. -Well, I haven't opened the envelope yet. -Can you please do it now? It's important. He can't believe he just said that, was that too bold? Drops of sweat coming out on his forehead. -If you insist... Unsure and kind of nervous she opens it up and pulls the white thin stripe. His knees are becoming weak as she turns it on. Matrix-style symbols once again. He dies a little inside when her clock shows "821d 02h 37m 08s". Well, folks, I guess it was the fat lady that signed him up for the watch two days before.
